President's Community Prayer Breakfast

This morning Beth Ann and I were invited to the President's Community Prayer Breakfast at Baylor. Dr. David Hardage, now the Director of Development for Truett Seminary, invited us to sit at the Truett Seminary table (table # 8 - on the front row). We were up early this morning, but it was worth it. The buffet started at 6:30 AM at the Ferrel Center. At 7:00 AM Chris Machen called us to worship with a song he wrote, The Lord is the Strength of My Life. President Lilley then greeted us. Other noteables on the agenda where Dr. Roland Hernandez, Waco Independent School District; Sarah Roberts, Greater Waco chamber of Commerce; Joel Boesche, St. Paul Lutheran Church of Waco; and Burt Burleson, Baylor University Chaplain and Dean for University Ministries.

We feel honored to have been invited and enjoyed it. Thank you, David!

New Movie by Ben Stein

I received my Outreach magazine today and found an article for Ben Stein's movie Get Expelled coming out in February. I am interested in seeing the movie. Like most Christians I will jump on the Intelligent Design (ID) wagon. The movie website lists news articles concerning ID and I was surprised to see a couple about Baylor (1, 2-not available on the Waco-Trib website). My brother went to Baylor and I live in Waco and am found of Baylor. Both speak of Baylor actually silencing the notion of a creator over natural selection.

"Now them's fighting words!" Okay, now hold on. I have no knowledge of any of this other than what is in the articles and I was just saying "hey Ben Stein's got a movie out and I think I want to go see it."

Anyway, the movie seems to deal more with free speech and the ability to voice and pursue all possibilities in science than an outright flaming Creationist movie. Check out the link, if you want you can go see it with me and I'll even treat you to a hamburger (a really limited offer: you must live in or travel to Waco, TX; be one of the first two people to take me up on the offer; and you must not be creepy).

January WRBN Pastors' Conference

After taking a month off for the holidays the Pastors' Conference is back. Write it down: Noon, January 9 in the Piper Great Hall at Truett Seminary. The speaker will be Dr. Ian McCaw, Director of Athletics at Baylor University. Remember it costs $5 to eat now. Make your reservations by Friday, January 4th (that's this Friday) with Rachael (753-2408). I made mine early.
