Now I'm Ticked Off

For a reason I do not know our local HEB store has decided that $74 worth of gas is as much as you can get in one sitting. That should not be an issue though for your average consumer. Except that gas is now 3.79 (and 9/10 of a cent) a gallon. I will admit I took my gas can for my lawn mower to fill it also, but I had to make two transactions to fill up my truck and the two gallon gas can. Observe the receipts below.

Just what exactly is happening that I am going to have to start making two transactions every time I have to fill my truck up when it is not to the point of the little "empty fuel tank" light coming on. Yes I have a 25 gallon tank on my truck, but most full-size truck owners do. And they say the price of gas is going to get even higher. What is HEB going to do when even smaller vehicles start having to make two transactions?

I know two transactions is probably not what HEB intended. The little sign says you must go to the attendant and ask for more gas and they will let you have some more. I don't intend to beg for gas. I am paying hansomly for it already.

Beth Ann and I looked at bicycles yesterday. I might just have to start riding a bicycle to work. At least I'm getting HEB points.

Now look at what we have gone and done.

Saw this last night on the news. After all the science fiction stories and their morals warning us about messing with creation, we now have glow in dark cats. The implications make my mind spin. You get a herd of these things and think how much electricity you could save. Oh my gosh; cat reading lights, cat night lights, the possibilities are endless. "Rudolf, look out!"

It is a little spooky: genetically enginering cloned cats to glow when exposed to ultraviolet light. Just think if they did that to a person. If the story is true we are closer than ever to either the key to curing genetic diseases or the key to really messing with a good thing.

Now For A Little Perspective

Don't you hate it when people go for more than a week without posting?  Me too.

After having time to think and ponder about my last post I have come to a conclusion: it is not as dramatic as it is made out to be.  Southern Baptists have been moving away from and toward and in every other direction to/from each other for years.  I can remember when I was in college and much of the same drama existed.

The Wikipedia states baptist churches are autonomous from any other governing body, and so we are.  My church, like so many others, use our relationship with other baptist groups as is meets our needs.  No matter what happens we will still use Sunday School literature from LifeWay which is an entity of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC).  We will always be an active part of the Baptist General Convention of Texas (BGCT) and participate in the ministry and training opportunities they offer.  We may even be drawn to the "Celebration of a New Baptist Covenant" because of it's emphasis on social concens.  Whatever happens I suspect we will be who we are and continue to emphasize the best of our relationships with outside entities.

Now, is this "New Baptist Covenant," or whatever name they choose, going to be a new national convention on par with the SBC, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF), or the American Baptist Churches USA (ABC)?  I don't think so.  It states itself to be a movement to counter the negative image given to Baptists by the SBC, specifically by emphasizing social concerns and ministry.  When all is said and done it could well be a good clearinghouse for ministry opportunities for baptist churches and nothing more.  We might have to learn a new acrostic though.

And So It Hits The Fan...

This morning as I was driving into the church and listening to talk radio a news break announced the Baptist General Convention of Texas and former presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton met to take the first steps in forming a new baptist convention and pull away from the SBC.  A sensational headline that did what it was meant to do, it got my attention.  I must admit, I do not know enough about the political dealings within the BGCT or the SBC to be able to open my mouth.  I looked up a few articles on the web (BCGT, BGCT, SBC via BNP, SBC via BNP, CBF, SBTC, FOXNews) and will hold my words until I am better informed.

I will say it is best when government politics and convention politics are kept clearly seperate.  It makes for good attention catching headlines, but nothing else good.
